THIS IS FAH-REAKING HI-LARIOUS

You may have to open this puppy up separately, but check out the bottom right hand corner film - and WHY I might enjoy it. :)

Christmas!

I love Christmas. Not just because it's the day we celebrate Jesus' birth, not just for all the family time and fun, but also because of the SHOPPING! Omigosh I love to shop. If not for shopping, I think I'd be a couch potato. Give me a gift card for any occasion, you've just given me the BEST GIFT EVER! Most of the time I find myself buying things for other people when I get a gift card, but that's the best part of it. I love giving gifts. I love the look on the recipients face, I love the "omigosh, this is perfect" look as well as the "what the hell were you thinking?" look. They're equally fabulous to me.

Friday I set out to finish my shopping. Woke up ready to check my checking account to be sure my paycheck was deposited and I was out the door by 9. I tried a bit of a scientific approach this year - I used a list. Ha ha ha...yes, I just had to - I found I was buying too much for one person (Andy) and not enough for others (Gramma). I hit Kohls, Walmart, Fashion Bug, Target, Hobby Lobby, Subway, MC Sports, Decker Sports, Younkers, Granny's Cupboard, The Olive Branch (two local stores in Mason City) and omigosh did I have fun. I found way more stuff for Mom and Dad, finished the boys' shopping. Found even more stuff for Andy and even found great things for Gramma. I finished my shopping officially at 3pm that day. Of course that didn't stop me from doing more shopping on Saturday nor today. (I'm headed up to Duluth after work - bound to find a few more fun things, as well as take back a few things that I decided were excessive.)

Did I mention I found three sweaters and two necklaces for myself? Oh, that reminds me! The cardigan I got from Fashion Bug - I need to get a shell for under it. Add it to the list for tonight silly!

Andy and I finished watching the second season of "The Big Bang Theory" - absolutely worth watching that show. Bazinga...intelligent humor is the best.

Let's see - what else has gone on? Project Runway - good job to Irina - she did a nice job. ANTM - loved Nicole all the way through. Have you all watched "Glee" on Fox? Omigoodness is that a fun show. High school musical constantly! the music is fun - I love the broadway-esqueness of the show! Funny, yet stupid, plot line that keeps me hooked. I look forward to every Wednesday now! PR starts back up in January, right about the time American Idol does - poor Andy - he'll never catch me without a show I think.

As for Andy - he rocks. I love that man. He makes me smile all the time. We spent the week together last week just hanging out and I don't remember when I laughed so much. We focused more on hanging out than working on the house - although we did have heated discussions about how things should wind up looking. His parents came up for lunch on Saturday so we got to experience Bonanza (good food - crap atmosphere - dirty bathrooms). He sat through Love, Actually, and he may never actually admit it, but he liked it. Once he figured out that you had to pay attention to characters, that is! :)

Movies and books since I last posted? They include (thanks to Netflix lists) Up, Sunshine Cleaning, Northern Exposure (seasons one and two), Adventureland, Cold Comfort Farm (stupid), Miss Austen Regrets (weird), Freedom Writers, American Son (awesome), Faith Like Potatoes (couldn't get into it), Apocalypto, Wives & Daughters, Lust, Caution, Then She Found Me, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Dangerous Beauty, and I've started watching "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" - omigosh is that a funny show.

Well - I'm off to more shopping! Family Christmas is Saturday and Andy's coming up here (for the second weekend in three). Jennifer will be up from Texas and David will be home from MNTC for the afternoon, so all the cousins will be together for the first time in about three years. All the family is healthy, there's two new babies (Odin and Elias) and so we'll have five kids under age 5!

Merry Christmas!

27 July 2009

Ahhhh summertime!

Oh it's been a great summer! Cool weather, a few fun thunderstorms, no excessive heat. I'm a happy camper! I just looked back and realized the last time I blogged was the Monday after an Appleseed shoot and here it is another Monday after an Appleseed shoot. Today's post, however, will be a completely different story about Appleseed than the first.

I've been looking forward to another shoot for three months. Even tho WonderBrother and Andy-rama couldn't come with, I was determined to go anyway. Friday turned out to be quite the day here at work - the nurse called in sick and we had no other nurse who could work for us, so I pinch hit...no, I didn't draw labs or take BPs or anything, just got the patients in a room and started for the doc. I didn't get out of here until 5.45 and seeing a minimum 4 hour drive ahead of me, I head south (to LaCrosse).

South of Rush City through to Forest Lake (no joke) was bumper to bumper traffic headed north - and they were driving about 15 mph...ugh. It was just before I saw this traffic that I started thinking, "what are you doing? why are you headed down there? are you kidding? you're tired, you need a break and what are you doing, driving to shoot all weekend." Then I saw the traffic headed north and said no way Jose...I'm not turning around. Besides, I said to myself, you do this all the time - stress out before the event and then when you get there you have a great time. Ok - driving south....

I'm cruising along...took 52 south, haven't been through Rochester in a while, fun to see the improvements/changes...

...I-90 now...cruising well with traffic - construction on the other side, hee hee, not me! woohoo! Call Andy and BAM....whooosh...oh thank goodness there's a rest stop RIGHT HERE. I pull off to the rest stop, find the brightest street light and park under it. Get out of the car and sure enough - flat tire. Damn

So - empty out the trunk. My bags, my guns (all three of them), my shooting mat, the umbrella, the reusable shopping bags, the emergency kit, the bug-out bag, my sleeping bag, ...ah! finally! the floor of the trunk! Ok - so take off the carpet, then the hard cover, oooo - look! a donut tire! ok - so that comes out, then the pack of tools...wierd Korean things...and then the jack...ok, the jack. the jack. the jack! damn jack get off of your pegs...it took me 15 MINUTES to get that f&$(#@^ thing off the sidewall of the trunkwell! By this time no less than 6 cars have come and gone from the rest stop, not a single one of them even giving me an encouraging "I'm sorry I know nothing about cars and can't help you but I'll hope for the best for you" smile. One female even had the cajones to say to her boyfriend "...you're supposed to stay in your car if that happens"...omigosh, I was ready to drop kick her ass across the parking lot.

So finally I pry the jack off the trunk wall and start to take lug nuts off the tire...well try to take lugnuts off...now's about the time I call home. I just can't handle this. Talk to dad and realize after it's nearly too late that I've told him the wrong tire and I'm cranking the wrench the wrong way. This left-loose, right-tight thing is tricky cuz the wrench handle is going left but the wrench itself is going right so I was doing the wrong thing...anywho...just as I figure out I'm doing it wrong a kind man offers to help. Now let me tell you about this kind man...he walked waaaaaayyyy around me and made sure I saw him first before asking if I could use some help. What a guy! By this time I think I'm gonna be ok but just in case I swallowed my pride and said "sure." I managed to get the lug nuts loose and then AJ (nice guy's name) just took over and did the rest of it for me. Although I did put the jack under myself and jacked the tire off the ground BY MYSELF! ;) I watched him work the rest of the time and when I missed seeing him tighten a lugnut on the donut he was super gracious and showed me again that it was on tightly. I thanked him profusely and immediately got back on the phone with mom as I finished packing the car back up and headed back on the road (at 6o mph - ugh). Thank goodness that misadventure is over.

...then I checked into my hotel in LaCrosse...

that was the nastiest, smelliest most out-dated Days Inn I've ever been in my entire life. I had a clue as I walked into their add-on glass airlock entry, and the know-it-all at the front desk who said only "they close at 9" when I asked if the BP fixed tires didn't really make me any more impressed with the place, but the kicker was walking into a room that had the nastiest old house smell I've ever smelled. The decor was so outdated I think it would fit in Andy's house...and there were DOUBLE sized beds, not even queen. Okay, okay, I knew they'd be double, but I didn't think they'd be double! Oh dear...what I do for an inexpensive rate on a hotel. There went my plans for a relaxing saturday after a shoot. That's it, I'm going home as soon as this tire is fixed.

...the helpful desk attendant suggested the Farm and Fleet for tires, so i called to be sure of their hours and set my alarm for 7.30am.

I slept well after I turned up the AC so I couldn't hear the I-90 traffic directly outside my window and awoke at 8.30.

Blains (Farm & Fleet) was very kind - good to work with, great people. I asked to have the tire repaired and they said it'd be 30 minutes before I could get in...so...found a Perkin's half a block a way and sat down to figure out what to have for breakfast. Phone rings - it's Blain's - your tire has a hole in the sidewall, we'll need to get a new tire and we need you to sign an ok on it. "I'll be right there." "Server, I'll be back - I need to go back to Blain's" "no problem!" DRive back to Blain's with my car, leave the car, and my spare key; walk back to perkins. Settle in, order a Diet Coke and the phone rings. "Do you have your key fob?" "yes" "your car won't let me unlock it with the spare key" "I'll be right there" ...and there's my Diet Coke just arrived. I walk to Blain's, unlock the car and go back to Perkins (keep in mind I'm walking back and forth and it's 10am and it's humid as all heck). My omlette comes, I read a chapter or two of a book, I'm half done and PHONE RINGS. It's Blain's...your car is done but the car has locked itself again. "I'm just finishing breakfast, I'll be there in 5 minutes" Walk back to Blain's and the gal takes my keys..."Wait a minute, I thought the car was done." No...the TIRE is done...the car was locked and they couldn't put it on. Ugh...So I wait another 10 minutes, read a few more chapters and then repack the trunk of the car.

What a day! $120 more for a new tire - did I mention the broken one had only 700 miles on it - and I'm headed home without having fired a single shot.

The day redeemed itself with a few shopping stops I must mention.
--Cannon Falls. Has an antique place that I love stopping by, but in the parking lot is a new crafts store. GREAT PLACE! I found all my Christmas ornament gifts there. Excellent. At the antique place I found an advertising postcard for
--Nellie's Barn Sale. Totally worth stopping by. They have a bunch of vendors who bring things in four times a year and they have a weekend sale. It's just west of Hastings on 190th/205th st. I found an awesome fireplace screen, a lead pot, a wooden basket, two magnets, a schmitty's patch (don't tell Gabe - it's his Christmas present), a 49 Ford advert, raspberry jam, salsa, and rhubarb peach jam all for $43!

I got home around 5pm and have never been so grateful for home ever...and then I realized I hadn't even been gone for 24 hours...

Appleseed Winona, MN 2009

Woohoo! I can shoot good! I've not talked about my new love of shooting. I grew up around guns - Dad always had a .22 and a shotgun of some type around - but I never shot them. I was "scared" of them...maybe was just trying to be too girly? I don't know. Anyway - didn't shoot anything until I dated James. Once I found out he was a shooter I asked WonderBrother to let me shoot his "big" gun. What fun! To be able to tell a new bf that you'd shot an AR and he hadn't ever had the opportunity! Wow! James took me trap shooting and I fell in love with it. He loaned me a 12 gauge shotgun and I averaged about 14-17 each 25...very cool!

WonderBrother owed me some money so I told him if he bought me a handgun, we'd be even. Excellente! Gun #1 - a .40 Springfield XDM - rock on! Looooove it! I suck at target shooting but I'm getting better. WB is a great teacher - I couldn't shoot until I could take it apart, clean it, and put it back together again. Too bad .40 ammo is so daggum expensive nowadays! Can't even buy my $29.96 100 round white box from Walmart anymore -they're out!

BodyBrother also owed me some cashola, so same deal for him - buy me a gun and we're even. This time I asked for a 12 gauge. Got it! A Mossberg 835 - a little long for me so the stock'll have to be cut down but it's friggin awesome. I just have to get my shooting shoulder in gear and I'll be a trap shootin' fool!

Gun #3 is my Ruger 10-22. Perfect little plinker gun for me. We're going to put peep sights on it cuz we discovered this weekend that the open sights aren't so cool and look into an adjustable stock as well.

So - this past weekend, WB and I spent Saturday and Sunday at the Winona Sportsmens Club. We were a part of Appleseed. What a great way to learn about our history as well as to gain invaluable skills with rifles! I can't say enough about how much this program has taught me and encouraged me as a self proclaimed gun nut. Right now WB and I are trying to find a place to have an Appleseed shoot closer to us as the nearest is still Elk River.

The whole crew on Saturday evening - we had a beautiful day - hit 85 degrees at one point during the day - ALL of us were sunburned by the time this photo was taken!

Prone shooting - our Shoot Boss, Thor, is in the green hat, and our IITs (Instructors in Training) are in the orange hats - analyzing our form and offering assistance as needed.

"Shooters, you may proceed down range and mark and score your targets"
Jesse, Jody and Mandy counting, hoping to hit that magic number, 210, that'll make them officially, a Rifleman! Sunday afternoon action, the REALLY dedicated were shooting by 4.45 on Sunday afternoon! (Yes, I admit, I ducked out of ONE AQT - but only one!)
RIFLEMAN! Way to go WonderBrother!!!

What an awesome weekend!

For the record - I never scored my AQTs...but I checked them over last night here at home. I didn't break 100...my goal is that by next Appleseed I'll be consistently hitting 150-180. I'd love to make Rifleman by then, but I'll shoot for the 180s first!

Book and Movie catch up time

Ok - Movies since we last talked include: Music Within: worth watching; Australia: good for a laugh or two but could have been done in at least two places before it was actually finished; Run Fat Boy Run: hysterical!!!!! Must watch!!!!!

Books: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls - her memoir of life with crazy parents, well worth the read and it was a quick read by the way. And I had a little candy with Debbie Macomber's The Manning Grooms - cute one. I finished the Septimus Heap books (Magyk, Physyk, Flyte & Queste). Good books, a little more difficult to get into than others.

and, I was happy to introduce Jamie and Claire to Doreen Warner this week. She called me the day after I'd given it to her husband to pass along to her and she was already in need of the next book!!! And those are BIIIIIGGGG books! Always happy to help create more Diana Gabaldon fans!

Mason City

My weekend in Mason City! It was awesome. I drove down after work and had the joy of driving through an hours worth of fog, from just north of Owatonna to just north of Mason...yag. I hate fog, it's worse than snow! Snow and ice, you just drive really slow, but fog...well. It was not good. I made it to mason and it was clear and beautiful - got to see where Andy works all day - not quite a cubbie, not quite a palace. We headed to Fort Dodge on Saturday after we'd finally woken up (felt good to sleep in a bit) and took the scenic route through Webster City - what a cute town! Gonna have to drive that one when it's not raining sometime cuz there's some shopping that must be done there. Fort Dodge has a Fazoli's!!!!!!! and Andy let me pick where we ate late lunch!!!!! woohoo!!!!!!!

I got to see the babies in Fort Dodge...I decided I can't determine my favorite of the babies until I've had a ride in each one. I'll have to fill you in on that sometime later (the babies are cars, of course).

Went to a cool little bar with good food called Lefti's for supper with his parents. Good fish and chips, excellent loaded nachos. We didn't get home until 9 or so as we "had" to go to Target after dinner and then ended up sleeping too late for church. Whoops! Ended up with a bit of an ice shower so didn't head back north to MC until about 3, but then had a fun meandering drive north. Andy's gonna be once fantastic road trip partner!

The weekend was a great eating weekend with anything from subway to Lefti's to Chef's Kitchen and a fun one to get to know Andy's parents and Sam, his dog. Fort Dodge is a neat little town, just like Mason City!

and again, we have sunshine!

woohoo! Loves it! I even walked a bit at lunch today! it wasn't an insignificant amount of walking either - a REAL walk! ;) I'm recovering from a 13 hour day with the little monsters yesterday (as opposed to "the monsters" - there are the little monsters and the big monsters). We had a great time hanging out at "Mary's house" and going to Menards (where they ran away from me!) and eating at McDonalds...Amazingly they went to bed at a reasonable hour and I had time to finish my book. Poor Reese - I told him if he didn't fall asleep and stay in his bed mom and dad couldn't come home. oh dear - traumatized for life I'm afraid! ;)

They had fun wearing my sunglasses...yes, I took a picture while I was driving on the interstate...

this one's just a damn cute one of Janna, with her sunglasses on top of her head "just like you, Annie" ;)

and it's Shamrock shake time at McDonalds - yummy!

06 March 2009

Whoa!

*O-E moe-e wocky...it's been over a month since I was on here! Wow!

...so it's gorgeous outside today, sunny and in the 40s and I'm loving it!

As for the weight loss program, blech...haven't lost a pound. Haven't gained anything tho, that's a positive for the day! I'm trying to take babysteps now, my goal is to lose 5 lbs by Easter. That's completely do-able I think...but then again I said that 35 lbs by July 1 was doable too and here I am, having lost nada! ;)

So what have I been doing since I posted last? Hmmmm *glancing through the planner*...well, when last we "talked" I said that Andy was coming up and we'd go out to eat quite a bit and sure enough! He came up late Friday night and we'd had pizza with Gramma already! ;) Saturday we went out to eat (yummy) and attempted to see baby Andrew Berglund, but mama and baby were resting so I didn't get to see him until later in the week. We drove all over creation, Andy got to see Lake Superior for the first time and it was a perfect day for it. The ice was still over the beach area and if you were silent you could hear the ice cracking with the sunlight. Gorgeous! We ate at Grandma's and I had chicken ceasar salad (my second favorite meal there) and then headed home. Met DeAnn, Gabe and the boys and Emma up at Mexico Lindo and I ate part of Tommy's quesadillas and all of my Pollo Santa Fe (new dish - excellente!). Had an awesome time with all of them!!! Gabe had spent some time in the ER that morning already so his morphine and beers weren't really working together for positive. Fortunately it wasn't a nasty situation for the rest of us! :) So the next day was Super Bowl Sunday and we headed to the Mall of America to be able to spend more time together - excellent choice. We rode all kinds of rides in the Nickuniverse park, shopped til we nearly dropped and had a wonderful sandwich at Tony Roma's. Great day, fantastic weekend with my Andy.

I started off February really well - walked two days in a row in the evening on my treadmill the first week; three days in the next week and then laziness set in. Not even watching American Idol was an incentive to get on the damn machine, I sat and sat and sat! ;) A couple of days I've been able to walk outside which has been fantastic for morale but the majority of the time I've been doing nothing...I know, I know...I'm telling myself the same thing! "Get off your hind end!!!!"

Movies for the past month include: The Visitor, Vicky Christina Barcelona, The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Ballet Shoes, Priceless, The Reader, The Wrestler, The Changeling, Gigi, The Curse of the Golden Flower, Trade, Chrissa Stands Strong, and Kung Fu Panda - whoa, that's a lot! ;) Although for a month, that isn't all that bad, is it?

Opinions on movies:
The Visitor - fantastic, well worth watching, gets you thinking about illegal aliens
Vicky Christina - crap, what a stupid purchase
Dark Knight - meh...well, at least I've watched all the Batman movies anyway
Tropic Thunder - what a hoot! very foul but hysterically funny
Ballet Shoes - adorable! Who knew Hermione Grainger could be a normal little girl?
Priceless - had to remind myself what the movie was about, so a little forgetable but a cute one nonetheless (subtitled!)
The Reader - loooved it! what a concept!
the Wrestler - oh dear...I knew there was a reason I never got into 80s wrestling...yag
The Changeling - hmmmm, police corruption and Angelina Jolie as gorgeous as usual.
Gigi - "thank heaven for little girls"
Curse of the Golden Flower - weird...kung fu action-y type of movie...
Trade - fantastic - well worth watching. references the sex trafficking in Mexico to the US.
Chrissa - adorable!!!!! An American Girl movie, well worth watching and wasn't as cheesy as some of the "after school special-y" type movies out there.
Kung Fu Panda - Hi-YA! loved it! Po rocks (Janice even gave me a Po stuffy for here at work - he watches over me as I work)

So as for TV - American Idol is making me happy. ANTM has just started back up so my Wednesdays will be busy with both shows on at once. I think I need to get TiVo. I am super-pumped that Anoop is in the top 13 but a little bummed that Jesse didn't make it in. Thank heavens that The Bull didn't get in....it's too bad her personality is crap, she has a halfway decent voice. Oh well. I'm looking forward to seeing Danny, Anoop and Lil do really, really well all the way through the competition. As for ANTM, I don't know yet, I haven't had a chance to watch the first show yet - ugh! I'll let you know my opinion on that as soon as I have the chance. I know, I know...you're just waiting for me to report on that! ;)

Books, books, books...have had the most difficult time getting my reading in! I read Pax Americana - one of my seditionist gun-totin' books, was good but no wrap up in the end so I was a lot disappointed. A patient loaned me the Septimus Heap series and I have to say I'm a bit hooked. Quite good!!!! Hmmm...was thinking that I've read more than that, but I can't remember...that must be it. It's been so busy here at work that I don't get my hour at lunch to read as much as before. Some days I even forget to stop for lunch - amazing! I'm still looking at purchasing a Kindle or similar book reader device. Especially when I end up taking two books with me over a weekend b/c I'm nearly done with one and will be starting the other! Once I told Andy about that he thought I should spend the $100 more and get a whole laptop instead of just a reader...microsoft reader is a program that's free and works on all computers. I'm not completely sold yet, but the idea of having a laptop to get my stuff done wherever I am is starting to rub off on me. Again, i'll keep you posted! ;)

So February wrap up - one weekend up here with Andy, a four day weekend in Mason City with Andy and now today I'm headed there again - woohoo! I've met his parents once, had a great time with them. Love Mason City, it's a great little town. So far, my Andy is fabulous. He bought me a beautiful necklace for Christmas-Valentines Day. He has great taste in jewelry and stuffies! ;)

I had my Thursday off yesterday and did a bunch of shopping. Came home to a new gun on my bed - woohooo! David paid me off (from a few loans in the past) with a 12 gauge shot gun - woohoo!!!!!! Love it! Now I have my own arsenal. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet - it's tough living right by the school, I don't dare shoot when there are things going on over there. Anyway, I'll get a few rounds through that baby next weekend and I'll post pictures of my bruises!

Baby Andrew came the end of January and then my cousin Christine had baby Odin on the 19th- baby central! I've had the chance to hold and talk to baby Andrew a few times at church and he and I get along just fine. He's a great conversationalist too! I'm looking forward to seeing baby Odin over Palm Sunday weekend at Auntie Karla's...

David's been living at home again - it's been weird having all of us at home - sharing the bathroom with someone who actually uses it is pretty weird! I'm not saying Russell doesn't use the bathroom, he just uses it significantly less than David does! ;) The upside is that David cleans up a bit more than Russell. I don't really mind cleaning up but I feel bad for the women they'll end up with - those poor women will be worked to the bone!

Ok, I think I've caught you all up! I've been doing so much Facebooking that I forget to keep up on my blogging...AND my not eating. Have a fantastic Friday, enjoy the sunshine and I'll let you know how my weekend with the Andy turned out on Monday! :)

*Reeser Beeser's way of saying Holy Moly Rocky!

09 February 2009

It's Official

...as if you didn't already know...I'm a p-i-g, hog! :) I just finished an entire bag of dill pickle potato chips. It took me two work days but they're gone, the bag is in the garbage and I've the pickled tongue to prove it!

30 January 2009

Friday!!!!!!

I never thought it would actually show up - it's Friday...naw, not really. This week flew by, faster than I ever thought a week could fly. So Wednesday I ate at the Country Inn, and yesterday I ate at Subway and Taco John's - not good, not good at all...fortunately, when I got on the scale, I was still at 196. Thank goodness! I need to stop the eating out. But it won't happen this weekend - Andy's coming up, so we'll eat out at least twice I'm guessing. Olive Garden - here we come!

Food Thursday included a chicken bacon ranch sub from subway - got the 9-grain wheat bread. Yummy. Last night I had Taco Johns - their grilled burrito is just sooooo good. I only ate about 6 of my potato oles, not bad, I think! Other than that, I really didn't eat anything else. I've been keeping as busy as I can keep myself so I won't eat. I forget to eat when I'm really busy.

I saw Rachel Getting Married last night - depressing as all heck but Anne Hathaway does a damn good job of playing a whiny selfish recovering addict. Good grief. I hope she wasn't basing it off a real person, I'd hate to think someone could be that obnoxious and needy.

I also saw Red Road and Miss Potter...Red Road was a freaky weird movie from Glasgow, Scotland - interesting story, sad. Slow to get into it, but worth watching. Miss Potter was so sweet - it was Beatrix Potter's story. I have to say I could feel her pain - 34-year old woman living with her parents - of course this was 1902 instead of 2009, but still...Excellent movie, highly recommend it.

I'm still reading Under the Banner of Heaven - savoring it, really. So far it's a collection of people's stories - they'll all tie together I'm gathering, but sooo good.

I think that's all that's gone on...will update you on the Andy weekend come Monday sometime! :)

28 January 2009

Good Grease!

Oh dear - I've done it now...I just finished a patty melt w/ french fries from the Country Inn. In about 5 more minutes I'll be rushing to the bathroom. Yag - we call them sliders. And I should eat them, but doggone it, that's good grease!

I need to have some kind of reminder attached to me surgically that reminds me that overeating is miserable and not to do it. blech...

So the last two days have been pretty bad for me...eating WAAAAAAYYYY too much and getting zero exercise. The breakdown:
Monday's food
--diet coke (good grief, I shouldn't even have to type this anymore, should I?)
--2 Karianna's bars
--c. potato/sausage hotdish
--milky way
--pepperoni pizza from the gas station

Tuesday's food
--diet coke
--2 Karianna's bars (thank goodness they're all gone now)
--breakfast burrito from the gas station
--rice/chicken/broccoli bowl
--Joe Jitter's House Salad w/ copious amounts of ranch dressing

add to all this crap, now I've just had that patty melt...ugh...I don't think I want to get on the scale tomorrow morning

On a non-food note, I've finished Inkheart. It was good, i'll read the second book and even intend to see the movie. I'll let you know the comparison. I've started reading Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer...so far, really good. Its about fundamentalist mormons and the wacky (mostly criminal) things they do and get away with.

Russell and I watched The Duchess Monday night...good movie, I think. Kiera Knightly is always interesting to see. Apparently it was based on a true story - sad what people have done to live sometimes.

American Idol is heating up - auditions will be over after tonight and next week is Hollywood week. I'm liking the new judge - she is a good match for Simon and she gets along well with Paula so far! ;)

Waiting for sunshine today - hope you get some too! :)

26 January 2009

Patient update

Don't you hate it when you can TELL a person smokes - meaning, they smell like an ashtray, literally? yuk - I've had two of those today.

Meanwhile - I haven't updated you guys on crazy staring lady! She's better!!!!!! She's back!!!!! She's amazing!!!!! I'm so thrilled for her. She was nearly catatonic four months ago and now she's a fully functioning human being. Praise God, I say! She needed to be back - her daughter is 16 and what 16 year old girl doesn't need her mom?

Oh the sunshine...

...that I have missed! I finished a marathon movie watching weekend last night with Defiance. I saw Gran Torino before that and wow - what a Sunday afternoon! It was gorgeous sunshine when I walked in and dark night when I walked out! Both movies are well worth the time and effort to go see. Gran Torino - well - the acting, ugh, I've seen better. Clint Eastwood nails an old codger attitude and speech right ont he head but the kids acting in the movie...not so much. The story was fantastic and I loved hearing people laugh at the racial slurs just as much as I did! :) (Didn't make me feel so silly anyway). The movie even got some applause! The theatre was really full for a Sunday afternoon, I thought. Lots of people there, very surprising for a 4.05 movie. There was a line clear to the door for tickets when i walked in - shocking - but it was a super cold day, so I shouldn't have been surprised, no? Defiance - omigosh - fantastic movie also. A Schindler's List of sorts, but this is in Belorussia about the Bielski brothers - the 4 of them end up rescuing 1200 jews by wandering the forest for four years. Good movie, needed to be told. We need to keep remembering the the Holocaust did happen and Hitler was evil.

As for my food intake - well - not too bad!

--Diet Coke (duh)
--b-e-chz toasty
--2 cups of potato/green bean/sausage hot dish
--one of Karianna's bars (modest size)
--snack ziploc bag of chex mix
--Nerds Rope - Hey, I love them!
--sourdough bacon cheeseburger from BK
--1/4 of a small fries (Buster and Soda loved the other 3/4)

I know - I could have gone without the BK run, but it was late and I hadn't had dinner and I was driving by....quit whining Anne! ;)

So I'm finally getting really into Inkheart - of course now that I only have about 50 pages left! It's become quite a good story. I just might go see the movie after all.

Speaking of movies (again)...I pulled the Oscar nominations today and I have a whole list of more movies to see! Thankfully a ton of them are on Netflix already...I should have most of the movies available watched by the time the Oscars actually occur! I don't anticipate a marathon movie weekend coming up soon, but you never know!

Weight loss day umpteen

Ok - so it's Sunday...did I write on Friday? Hold on, I'll check, I can't remember...oh dear, I've been really slacking!!!! It was Thursday I last blogged. Ok, so let's see...Thursday was a good day, mainly because I realized I'm maintaining well - not going up in weight, but staying at my usual. That's good - for a start. I haven't been on the treadmill since the first time this week, so I need to get on it today or tomorrow.

Friday's food
--breakfast cookie
--toasty
--rice/chicken/broccoli bowl from Schwan's
--2 grasshopper cookies
--2 reese's miniatures
--Erbert's and Gerbert's Narmer with a pickle (narmer is turkey, cheese, avocado and lettuce - i don't take the tomato - yukky) on wheat.
--lots of Diet Coke

So - not a ton of food, but lots of white food! Bread is evil sometimes, no?

Saturday's food
--breakfast cookie (2)
--chex mix (I was at a movie, cut me some slack)
--2 cups of potato/sausage/green bean/cheesy hotdish

And I only had the DC, cookies and chex mix all day - had the hot dish at 8 or so last night. I was at a couple of movies, so didn't really eat much. It was a strange day.

So I saw Benjamin Button on Thursday, and Doubt last Saturday. Yesterday I saw Slumdog Millionaire and Revolutionary Road. I love two movie days! In fact, I love them so much I'm doing it again today - but I'll tell you about that tomorrow. Slumdog was fantastic - I recommend it to anyone, especially if you're interested in seeing what these poor kids can go through living in the slums of India. I'm continually amazed at how humans can survive terrible conditions.

Revolutionary Road - well - I told you I'd read the book, right? The book is depressing at best, but full of interesting characters. The movie was pretty spot on. You only miss out on the characters rich back-stories. Otherwise, it tells the story very well. I don't recommend seeing it if you're already down in the dumps. It will definitely NOT lift you up as Slumdog will. But it's worth watching. Kate Winslet is a darn good actress if I do say so myself. I like her a lot! :)

Still working my way through reading Inkheart. Emma saw the movie yesterday and said it was good - I'm not sure I really want to see Capricorn in full cinematic glory - he's pretty brutal. So I'm going to wait to get through the book before I make a decision on seeing the movie.

Ok - I'm going to finish my taxes today before I head out for my movies...

Weigh In Day! :)

This morning = 196 - excellent.

I went to see Benjamin Button today and made a Duluth day out of it - shopping at the scrapbooking place, car wash, shoe shopping, and the like. With the long day I did eat out twice, but only ate half of the curly fries at Arbys for lunch and half of the fries with my Burger King supper. :) I didn't feel stuffed like I usually do after a fast food meal, so I must be doing something right...at least I hope so!

Benjamin Button was fabulous, btw

Anyway - so food totals today include
--breakfast cookie w/ DC
--bacon beef and cheddar w/ curly fries and Dr Pepper
--1/2 bag of Dill Pickle chips while at the car wash
--sourdough bacon cheeseburger sans tomato w/ 1/2 small fries and DC

so far, so good! I know I need to add more veggies into this diet, and it'll come along soon, I hope! :)

Am still reading Inkheart - it's difficult to get into, but I've been told to just keep pushing on, it gets better!

Another day, less food

So yesterday was Monday - can be a typically food-filled day, but not yesterday! I managed to control myself the whole day long. I only had 1/2 cup of chex mix the entire day - woohoo - and managed to avoid eating a whole slew of oatmeal raisin cookies. I was able to laugh at dad on the treadmill. Yes - It's my turn soon, but it was funny to see him on there nonetheless.

Today was another good day. It was busy enough at work that I didn't even get my breakfast until 10.30, by that time my stomach was grumbly! I brought Gramma to the doctor so didn't have time to sit around and snack either. So far, so good! As soon as I get this post done I'll be hitting the treadmill - i'll let you know tomorrow how long I was able to walk.

Monday's food
--toasty (schwans bacon, egg & cheese)
--diet coke (prob'ly 4-6)
--blueberry muffin (Janice brought them in, I couldn't refuse, it'd have been rude)
--chicken potato Compleats
--1/2 cup chex mix
--the other 1/2 of my steak sandwich from saturday night
--about 10 french fries
--cup of strawberry yogurt
--1/2 of oatmeal raisin cookie (David swiped the other half)

Tuesday's food (so far)
--toasty
--diet coke (4-6 again)
--cup of hot dish
--potato bread toasted w/ butter
--house salad at Joe Jitters (lettuce, red onion, feta cheese, cucumbers, sprouts, croutons and ranch dressing
--root beer

and I'll prob'ly have another cup of yogurt for a snack later this evening...

I started reading Inkspell last night and read another 6-7 chapters today waiting for gramma at the MD's office...should be a good one! I'll keep you posted!

Day Four is over!

Day Four was a Sunday - a POTLUCK Sunday of all things!!!!! I made it through without making a total fool of myself. I'm impressed! I thought I'd try getting a dessert plate instead of a big plate, but decided, no, I can hold back. Normally of course, I'd have nearly overloaded my plate, but I was able to contain myself. Looking over the spread (I should have taken a picture, it was impressive!), I noticed Colleen's potato/green bean/sausage hot dish - Dad's favorite - and I thought AHA! I can have a bit of that and be good! So, I managed to just have two of the little compartments on the divided plate about 3/4 full of hot dish, took a small spoon of mom's hotdish, a big scoop of jello and a croissant. Washed it down with Diet Coke and even had a tiny piece of Kathi's almond bar - yum, yummy, yum! Normally after Sunday dinner I'm not hungry for supper, but last night I was! I held back and didn't snarf...it's getting easier and easier all the time to do that.

I watched "Another Cinderella Story" last night - I love those teeny-bopper dance movies! Got my laundry done and cleaned the bathroom and still managed to stay busy enough that I didn't start eating cuz I was bored.

Sunday's food total:
--Diet Coke (duh!) about 4
--breakfast cookies (2)
--potato hot dish (cup)
--noodle hot dish (1/4 cup)
--croissant
--Jello - (cup)
--noodle hot dish (1.5 cup)
--yogurt (cup)
--cheez-its (handful)

So far so good today - just my breakfast toasty - but Janice brought in blueberry muffins, I might have to have one. They're not Perkin's size, so I think one is okay! :)

(I'm still working on getting on the treadmill starting tomorrow night - I'll keep you posted, of course!)

17 January 2009

Day 3?ish...

Ok - so add to yesterday's food:
---more diet coke - duh!
--- easy mac cup (the two other compleats meals I tried were worse than dogfood)
---milky way (I haven't had one since Sunday)
---small (and I mean small) plate of spaghetti
---one more breakfast cookie...it's sooooo hard to go to bed with a rumbly tummy.

Not bad, really, if you think about it. The food intake was low - carbs were on the high side, no suprise there - but not bad.

So we're on Saturday. The day of the week where I can eat very little or really chow it down. Today started out really well. I finished reading a book, set up my new mattress/bed, went to a baby shower and a church meeting. I broke down at the shower and ate, I wasn't going to, but it turned out to be my lunch. I ate only 1/2 of what I normally would have eaten as well, I'm rather proud of myself - self control was intact today! I went to Old Chicago for a 10-year olds birthday and ate only 1/2 of my appetizer, 1/2 of DeAnn's appetizer and 1/2 of my meal! :) I brought home the other 1/2 of my meal and will have it for supper tomorrow night or lunch on Monday. I DID bring home the 'grocery store' from the clinic, but realized this morning I forgot the freezer stuff - that'll come home on Monday. I'm getting there! Like Andy said today, "your body will adapt." I'm looking forward to that!

I think I've figured it out - if I'm constantly working on something, I don't eat. If I'm really hungry, I'll stop and get something, but if not, then I keep on working. I find when I'm really involved in work at home here on my computer I'll just sip at my Diet Coke all night, without even thinking about the food in the house. At work - if I'm busy following up on things, having patients in and out all day, and the phone ringing. I won't even think about eating. So - keep busy! When I have down time, I need to get out for a walk, play with Soda or find something to keep me busy. If I get in that kind of habit, I'll always be caught up - woohoo!

I haven't gotten on the treadmill yet. Although after yesterday's walk to the bank (only 1.5 blocks away) with my calves cramping up on the way back - I really should get on that treadmill. It's ridiculous that I should be in pain walking so little! :)

I'm finding I have terrible compulsions to shop tho - since I don't allow myself to graze, I want to shop - ugh! I did stop at ShopKo before supper and buy a pair of jeans, but I bought a pair of 16, instead of 18 that I'm wearing right now...motivation, I'm calling it. I remember having to break down and buy the first pair of 16s...ugh...that was 4 years ago. Kind of like gasoline under $2/gallon - we're grateful it's that low, instead of complaining 4 years ago that it was $1.60! ;) Amazing

Ok - so food total for today
--breakfast cookies (2)
--Diet Coke (multiple)
--mini sausages (3 - they were the size of 1/2 dollars!)
--french toast bake (about 1/2 a serving)
--2 pieces of garlic toast with artichoke dip
--one piece each of the appetizer thingy DeAnn had
--1/2 steak/mushroom sandwich w/ cheese
--1/2 serving of french fries with ranch dressing
--1 Dr. Pepper

omigosh - look at all the bread and dairy! I love bread - bread is wonderful, especially with garlic and grilled or toasted! Oh dear...better watch the bread/dairy intake...that's prob'ly my biggest problem! :)

When I was at Target with mom last night I bought a 2009 planner with big enough daily boxes to fill in a food journal, so I'm remembering to write everything down so I can update you if I can't get on line right away. I'm hoping the treadmill time will start Tuesday! :)

So enough with the food. I finished "Brisingr" today - wonderful book! I look forward to seeing how Eragon, Saphira, Roran and Arya defeat Galbatorix in the 4th book. I have to admit I got a little misty eyed over Oromis and Glaedr. Amazing new things we learn about elves, dragons and Riders in this third of the Inheritance Cycle. Tonight I went to see "Doubt" with Meryl Streep - Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman are in it too - good movie. Worth watching. Makes you think. Makes you think Meryl's evil. She did a good job! I'll have to watch other Oscar-buzzed movies to determine if she should win an Oscar tho! Speaking of that - DeAnn and I are going to see "...Benjamin Button" on Thursday - am looking forward to that one, even tho it's 3 hours long! :)

Let's see - what else is going on? Um...well, Andy's pretty awesome, but I'll explain him another day! :)

16 January 2009

Ode to my food

I love you food
I want to eat more food
I'm hungry
I'm hungry

I'm a poet and no one wants to know it - see! :) I'm just hungry today. I was pretty good last night after I decided no more excessive food. I didn't have more dinner (like I've done in the past week) when mom offered steak (yum!), but I DID break down and had a breakfast cookie last night - so we'll have to add that to yesterday's food list. Ugh.

I've only had one toasty today - it was my breakfast. I'm on DC #2 - not bad actually - some mornings I'm on #3 or 4 by now! But now I'm hungry. I'ts 10.41 and I have a rumbly in my tumbly. I'm trying to resist the urge but I might just break down and have 1/2 cup of chex mix. (not a whole cupful like I usually do - please note). Lunch is in an hour so it'll tide me over - I hope.

So - food list so far
- bacon, egg & cheese toasty
- Diet Coke x2
- 1/2 mug of chex mix

Oh! And Ken Davis this morning followed up on yesterday's "Lighten Up" with "pace yourself - we're not out to beat everyone, we're out to finish the race" - thank you Ken, for the reminder!

Have a happy sunny Friday! I just got an invite to Old Chicago for tomorrow and I promise I won't over eat - PROMISE!!!!

I've Had Enough! (Day One)

That's it! I've had enough! From 3-4pm today I had not one, not two, not three, but FOUR toasties! That's excessive, that's piggish and it's so incredibly stupid of me. I eat when I'm happy, I eat when I'm sad, I eat when I'm content, I eat when I'm bored, I eat ALL THE TIME! I'm tired of it! The Susan Powter is coming out in me now...what did she say? something about "I've had enough"? Whatever - I can see the white butch haircut and I know she was all about getting healthy finally.

So here's my problem. I hate fruit and I hate cold veggies. I love cooked veggies, will eat nearly every kind - brussel spouts are even good! So - what do I snack on? Hm - candy bars, cheez-its, cheez-its party mix, easy mac...good grief. I'll snack on whatever's within my dirty mitts - ugh!

Solution? not a clue

But here are a few places I'm going to start.
1-Anne's "grocery store" is leaving the Clinic. I have a bin with all kinds of lunch things - all microwavable, all loaded with sodium - they're coming back here to the house. I'll bring one per day - that's it - no going back for seconds with the Easy Mac isn't "enough."

2- I've been resisting the candy bar a day thing for quite a while now - don't anticipate that being a problem in the future thankfully. Fortunately, I already have Shawn and Sarah on my side at work - they know if they bring treats to keep them out of my eyesight - thank you guys!!! Shawn even said when he brought an apple to work he could bring a second one for me - doggone it, I wish I liked fruit. Ugh!

3-I'm blogging daily - i'm keeping track of whatever I eat and I'm holding myself accountable to this blog - whether anyone else is reading or not, we'll see. But eventually I'm guessing a friend or two will be harassing me over the one Hershey Kiss I eat!

4 - I'm sticking with weighing myself once a week...it's been on Thursdays and today it was...well...you'll have to keep reading to find out! ;)

5 - I'm getting on that "Fa-weeeeekin"* treadmill twice a week to start...up to every day or walking outside once it warms up. I KNOW how good I feel once I get done on the treadmill - it's getting started that sucks monkeys (for lack of a better phrase).

Ok - I think that's it...I was doing a lot of thinking while I was driving home today...amazing how much thinking time you get in when you drive 25 minutes home, no...and I have a whole bunch of other goals, but I'm gonna start with this one first. The others will fall in line after it.

I do have motivation to lose weight. Dad issued a "Healthy Anne" challenge on New Years - if I lose 30 lbs by July 1, I'll get $1000. Niiiice! That'll buy my remote car starter and my Kindle OR be a good start to a new washer and dryer. I MUST remember the goal is not the cash, it's my health that's benefiting most!

Back to the car ride - I was thinking, like I said, about making some bad choices and Ken Davis came on KDNW and reminded us that like Peter, we want to be able to say to God that "I fought the good fight" and then be able to wear our crowns of righteousness. I keep forgetting that God is in control, he's the one with the answers and Satan is the one tempting me - "making" me eat all that food and get disgustingly chubby**. We're such a "now" generation, it's hard to forget that the long run is coming sooner than later! If I'd kept to my budget instead of buying all kinds of sweaters and shoes, my car'd have been paid off last month and I'd be paying on my student loans already! Stupid! See - lack of self control. I can't do it myself, I know that...I'm relying on God to hold me through the hard parts and laugh with me through the easy parts.

So - those of you who have stuck it out! here it is! I need to lose 30 lbs - my average weight over a month is 195, so I need to be at 165 by July 1 for some cash. Today's weight? 200 :(

What did Anne eat today? (the question is what DIDN'T Anne eat today?)
Diet Coke (prob'ly 6 so far)
Oatmeal chocolate chip breakfast cookie
Easy Mac cup
1 Schwan's bacon/egg/cheese toastie
4 Walmart toasties
1 Eggo toaster strudel thingy
2 mugsful Cheez-it party mix (chex, chees-its, pretzels, bagel bites, etc)

Thanks for listening!!!! Have a great day!
(and I did have a good day otherwise - very productive and the sun shone all day!)

Oh! I almost forgot! I've still been reading and watching movies! I watched "Smart People" with Sarah Jessica, Dennis Quaid and Ellen Page today - cute movie, slow moving, but cute story. I've finished Jamie and Claire and have been reading about Eragon - am about 1/2 way through Brisingr right now. I also bought Inkspell/Inkheart the other day so will read those when I'm done with Eragon. I'm planning on seeing Benjamin Button this weekend and will update you on that one too! :)

*see Coleman Larsen's CarePages on January 15, 2009 for explanation on that one
**don't even say it - I AM chubby - a 5'3" woman should NOT weigh 200 lbs! My knees ache, my head hurts and my belly protrudes like a woman who is 4-months pregnant - NOT good! Don't argue with me - I'm stating facts! :) Yes, I love myself for who I am.
